I'd suggest doing the demo for X3: Reunion and X3: Terran Conflict to get a feel of the more recent change within the series.

You can download a demo if you want to get a feel the game first. Personally I'd definitely recommend the series, it'll take a bit of time and commitment to learn everything (but playing EVE you should be used to that). I'd say Terran Conflict is a little more friendly than the previous game but can still be a little harsh if you don't pay attention.

Terran Conflict is the finale for the series, you don't need the previous games but if you want to be immersed in the full story then I'd recommend playing through the whole series.ДЄ lot of people are thrown off from the game series because it isn't the easiest thing to pick up X3: Reunion was a bit harsh and threw a lot of people into the deep end where NPCs don't wait for you to get your bearings. It is a single player game and easily the most beautiful space game you could play to date. I'd say think about a shooter in space, you can go first or third person. It's only 20 quid now, and personally I think it's well worth it. You can also command other ships you own to do stuff for you. Sort of like single player Eve, but you fly your ship manually. The controls are not particularly intuitive, and there are a lot of features which don't get explained and you have to figure them out for yourself.

It just dumps you in the middle of the game universe and expects you to know how to play. Yeah, I can see why some people think it's rubbish. If you did everything right the pilot name should reset to its deafult to confirm correct cheat entry. Note that this cheat is case sensitive so watch for the M. This gives you a chance to claim the abandoned ships and sell them, or keep the ship if desired, then upgrade it and have it as a wing man to help on harder missions that give even more money. There can also be another bonus for you - some of the ships might get abandoned. In addition to a reward, you get a bonus for every kill. Because you do not have a good ship yet, it is best that you accept only missions to protect stations.

You will notices that many stations have a red target (those are missions to kill, patrol, or protect).
